Black Forest Riders – Trip to Breckenridge (Part 1)

On Saturday, July 16, the Black Forest Riders took a trip up to Breckenridge, Colorado! It was a great day, packed with fun and a little side adventure along the way. Here we go!

Riding from out in the country, the morning started foggy and a little a chilly for me

BFR Breck-01About 30 minutes later, I rode out of the wetness and in to sunshine!

BFR Breck-02I met up with the group off of Hwy 24 near Manitou Springs – we had a total of 8 bikes and 11 riders show up!

BFR Breck-05I love the camaraderie of the group – these are good peeps!

BFR Breck-03I think Carol and Jenny were checking Google to see where the closest Starbucks was! πŸ™‚

BFR Breck-04Scott insisted that I actually get in front of the camera for a picture. Thanks Scott…now I can prove I was there! Meanwhile, Kerry checks out Marc’s brand new KLR!

BFR Breck-06And we’re off! The weather was beautiful as we went through Woodland Park!

BFR Breck-07

Tyler ignored the paparazzi to his right while the KLR and GS photobomb in the mirror

BFR Breck-08They clearly weren’t afraid of publicity!

BFR Breck-09First stop (about an hour and a half later) was at Wilkerson Pass – a great place to stretch!

BFR Breck-10I think Chappy and Bethany were considering trading their Goldwing for the Aprilia…it just wouldn’t be as comfortable!

BFR Breck-11Beautiful views looking towards Eleven Mile Reservoir!

BFR Breck-12

Jeff, our fearless leader, gave a rousing rendition of “She’ll be comin round the mountain when she comes…”

BFR Breck-13

Not everyone was impressed!

BFR Breck-14But some thought it was great!

BFR Breck-15

Others planned their escape route…

BFR Breck-16We hit the open road and hit some gusty areas on Hwy 9, but still made it to Breckenridge in great time

BFR Breck-17It was starting to get warm, so it was a great opportunity to shed the protective gear and go find lunch

BFR Breck-18The walk through town was nice and not overly crowded for this time of yearBFR Breck-19 BFR Breck-20 BFR Breck-21My friend Shawn and I ate here on our 1300+ mile ride across Colorado – SO good!

BFR Breck-22

Apparently this is what happens to bikes in the no parking area – chained up and tire ripped off!

BFR Breck-23

Scott does a quick hair check right before lunch…

BFR Breck-24And now, time for food!

BFR Breck-25Part 2 is coming soon, and features Marc and I breaking off from the group to go ride Boreas Pass, watch crazy bicyclists, endure heat stroke, and more! πŸ™‚
