On Saturday, July 16, the Black Forest Riders took a trip up to Breckenridge, Colorado! It was a great day, packed with fun and a little side adventure along the way. Here we go!
Riding from out in the country, the morning started foggy and a little a chilly for me
About 30 minutes later, I rode out of the wetness and in to sunshine!
I met up with the group off of Hwy 24 near Manitou Springs – we had a total of 8 bikes and 11 riders show up!
I love the camaraderie of the group – these are good peeps!
I think Carol and Jenny were checking Google to see where the closest Starbucks was! 🙂
Scott insisted that I actually get in front of the camera for a picture. Thanks Scott…now I can prove I was there! Meanwhile, Kerry checks out Marc’s brand new KLR!
And we’re off! The weather was beautiful as we went through Woodland Park!
Tyler ignored the paparazzi to his right while the KLR and GS photobomb in the mirror
They clearly weren’t afraid of publicity!
First stop (about an hour and a half later) was at Wilkerson Pass – a great place to stretch!
I think Chappy and Bethany were considering trading their Goldwing for the Aprilia…it just wouldn’t be as comfortable!
Beautiful views looking towards Eleven Mile Reservoir!
Jeff, our fearless leader, gave a rousing rendition of “She’ll be comin round the mountain when she comes…”
Not everyone was impressed!
But some thought it was great!
Others planned their escape route…
We hit the open road and hit some gusty areas on Hwy 9, but still made it to Breckenridge in great time
It was starting to get warm, so it was a great opportunity to shed the protective gear and go find lunch
The walk through town was nice and not overly crowded for this time of year My friend Shawn and I ate here on our 1300+ mile ride across Colorado – SO good!
Apparently this is what happens to bikes in the no parking area – chained up and tire ripped off!
Scott does a quick hair check right before lunch…
And now, time for food!
Part 2 is coming soon, and features Marc and I breaking off from the group to go ride Boreas Pass, watch crazy bicyclists, endure heat stroke, and more! 🙂
