A Loop Around Pikes Peak

When I said this story was “Coming soon“, that might have been a figure of speech! Here we are well over a month later and I am only now making time for this post. Sigh…time goes by too fast!

On Saturday, October 20th, me and four friends decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and do a loop around Pikes Peak. We met up at a parking lot off of Hwy 24 before heading towards Cripple Creek:

We stopped at the “Grassy Valley Mining Overlook” and a guy there was kind enough to take this group photo!

He had a pretty cool truck too…

This has to be the most unique lookout tower I’ve ever seen and been in!

Doug was happy he conquered the climb!

Hmmmm, that is a lot of stairs…

Such a beautiful day with magnificent views!

Although I have mixed emotions about seeing the mine, I do have to admit that the sheer size/scale of it is astonishing! That tiny dot in the middle left of the screen is a HUGE crane!

And if you look extremely closely in the top left of this image, you can see a massive earth mover like what we are standing in…

This was as far as I could zoom in – now do you see it!?

Jeff was happy thinking about the lunch we were headed towards!

We looped out towards Guffey, Colorado and then headed to a pub in Divide for some tasty treats. It was a great way to end the group-ride season!

Ha, I can certainly relate to a post “coming soon”! 🤣 Great ride report, and pics. We were in that very mine overlook parking area on the 100,000 foot ride last August! Wish we were going to be here for that this year but we will be in Oregon by then. Btw, we have already signed up to come back next year for the whole season. 😍 Can’t get enough of this incredible state.
